The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
