The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth. 13 and even if We opened to them a door from heaven, and they began ascending through it, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
