The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Do you think that you will remain here peacefully forever 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
