Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
