۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They asked (on return): "Who has done this to our gods? He is surely a mischief-monger." 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 Then gathered they apart and said: Lo! ye yourselves are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns). 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
