Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 And created the jinn before him, from smokeless fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 When I have completed shaping him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, then fall you down before him in prostration." 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 And verily on thee shall be the curse till the Day of Requital. 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 He said: So surely you are of the respited ones 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 "O my Lord," he said, "since You have led me into error I'll beguile them with the pleasures of the world and lead them astray, 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
