[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 "Be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me, 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who spread corruption in the earth, and reform not. 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 you are no different from a mortal like us. So produce a sign if you are truthful." 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
