The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you really considered al-Lat and al-"Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
