The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Scorching the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
