Al-Layl
The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
