Aaron had already, before this said to them: "O my people! ye are being tested in this: for verily your Lord is (Allah) Most Gracious; so follow me and obey my command." 90 They said "So long as Moses does not come back we are not going to give it up, and we will remain devoted to it." 91 [Musa (Moses)] said: "O Harun (Aaron)! What stopped you when you saw them going astray; 92 From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?" 93 Aaron answered: "Son of my mother! Do not seize me with my beard, nor by (the hair of) my head. I feared that on returning you might say: 'You sowed discord among the Children of Israel, and did not pay heed to my words.'" 94 Moses said: "What, then, is your case, O Samiri?" 95 He replied: "I saw what they saw not: so I took a handful (of dust) from the footprint of the Messenger, and threw it (into the calf): thus did my soul suggest to me." 96 [Moses] said, "Then go. And indeed, it is [decreed] for you in [this] life to say, 'No contact.' And indeed, you have an appointment [in the Hereafter] you will not fail to keep. And look at your 'god' to which you remained devoted. We will surely burn it and blow it into the sea with a blast. 97 Your Lord is the One who is the only God and He has the knowledge of all things. 98 Thus We relate to you the history of past events, and We have given you a reminder [the Quran] from Us. 99 Whosoever turnoth away therefrom - verily they shall bear on the Day of Judgment a burthen, 100 Abiding in this (state), and evil will it be for them to bear on the day of resurrection; 101 The Day whereon the trumpet will be blown into, and We shall gather the culprits on that Day blear-eyed, 102 They will slowly talk to each other and say, "Our life on earth was as short as ten days". 103 We know best what they say, when the fairest of them in course would say: You tarried but a day. 104
