The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nigh unto men has drawn their reckoning, while they in heedlessness are yet turning away; 1 Whenever a new revelation comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in a playful manner, 2 their hearts set on passing delights; yet they who are [thus] bent on wrongdoing conceal their innermost thoughts [when they say to one another,] "Is this [Muhammad] anything but a mortal like yourselves? Will you, then, yield to [his] spellbinding eloquence with your eyes open?" 3 The Lord said, "Tell them (Muhammad), 'My Lord knows all that is said in the heavens and the earth. He is All-hearing and All-knowing ". 4 Nay! say they: Medleys of dreams; nay! he has forged it; nay! he is a poet; so let him bring to us a sign as the former (prophets) were sent (with). 5 Not one township that We destroyed before them believed. Would they, then, believe? 6 And We sent not before thee but men unto whom We revealed; so ask the people of the admonition if ye know not. 7 And We did not make the prophets forms not eating food, nor were they immortal [on earth]. 8 Then We fulfilled to them the promise, and We saved them and those whom We willed, but We destroyed Al-Musrifun (i.e. extravagants in oppression, polytheism and in sin). 9 Now We have sent down to you a Book wherein is your Remembrance; will you not understand? 10
