Joseph (Yousuf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
A. L. R. These are the symbols (or Verses) of the perspicuous Book. 1 Verily We! We have sent it down, an Arabic Recitation, that haply ye may reflect. 2 We do relate unto thee the most beautiful of stories, in that We reveal to thee this (portion of the) Qur'an: before this, thou too was among those who knew it not. 3 When Joseph told his father, "My father, I saw eleven stars, and the sun and moon: I saw them prostrate themselves before me," 4 he replied, "My son, do not relate your dream to your brothers, lest they plot evil against you -- Satan is the sworn enemy of man. 5 "Thus will your Lord choose you and teach you the interpretation of dreams (and other things) and perfect His Favour on you and on the offspring of Ya'qub (Jacob), as He perfected it on your fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ishaque (Isaac) aforetime! Verily, your Lord is All-Knowing, All-Wise." 6
