Al-Alaq
The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
