He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 fruits, and grass. 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
