The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
