The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 Pollution shun! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
