He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
