The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a few from later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
