A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction). 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
