He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
