The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
