Observedest thou him who turned away? 33 And he gave a little, then refrained? 34 Or, does he possess knowledge of the Unseen, and can therefore see? 35 Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses, 36 and of Abraham, who to his trust was true: 37 That no burdened person (with sins) shall bear the burden (sins) of another. 38 That a man receives but only that for which he strives; 39 And that his effort will soon be scrutinised? 40 And only then will he receive his recompense in full; 41 And that unto thy Lord is the goal. 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 that it is He who causes death and gives life; 44 That He created pairs, male and female, 45 From a sperm-drop when it is emitted 46 and that He will bring about the Second Creation; 47 And that it is He Who enricheth and preserveth property. 48 And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius 49 And that it is He (Allah) Who destroyed the former 'Ad (people), 50 And Thamud - and He did not spare [them] - 51 And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; 52 And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah). 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The threatened Hour is nigh. 57 None but God can avert it. 58 Then at this statement do you wonder? 59 Will you laugh at it rather than weep? 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 So make obeisance to Allah and serve (Him). ۩ 62
