Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the break of Day 1 and ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
