Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Toiling, weary, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 raised couches, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
