The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 And when the stars fall, 2 The mountains made to move, 3 the young barren camels are abandoned, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 when the buried female infant is asked 8 such as, "For what crime were they murdered?" 9 And when the pages are made public 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 When the Blazing Fire is kindled to fierce heat; 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 and the morn as it softly breathes: 18 That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 and he is not one to begrudge others the knowledge [of whatever has been revealed to him] out of that which is beyond the reach of human Perception. 24 Nor is this [message] the word of any satanic force accursed. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 However, you will not be able to choose anything unless God, Lord of the Universe wills it to be so. 29
