The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 the lying, rebellious forehead! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
