A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 That, “We have indeed been penalised!” 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
