The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and amid the extended shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for those on the Right, 38
