(Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard, 34 He wants to expel you from your land through his magic. What is your opinion?" 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer. 37 So the sorcerers were assembled for the appointed time of a fixed day. 38 and the people were told, "Will you also gather together, 39 so that we may follow the magicians if they become victorious? 40 And when the magicians came, they said to Firon: Shall we get a reward if we are the vanquishers? 41 He said: yea; and ye shall verily then be of those brought nigh. 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 Thereupon they threw their [magic ropes and their staffs, and said: "By Pharaoh's might, behold, it is we indeed who have prevailed!" 44 Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed! 45 And the wizards were flung prostrate, 46 They said, “We have accepted faith in the Lord Of The Creation.” 47 and the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said [Pharaoh]: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Verily, he must be your master who has taught you magic! But in time you shall come to know [my revenge]: most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and shall most certainly crucify you in great numbers, all together!" 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 We are eager that our Lord should forgive us our offences, for that we are the first of the believers.' 51
