Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
