The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
