(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
