A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a numerous company from among the last. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
