And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 “They are all my enemies, except the Lord Of The Creation.” 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
