The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
