I told them, "Messengers, eat from the pure things and act righteously; I know all that you do. 51 And surely this your religion is one religion and I am your Lord, therefore be careful (of your duty) to Me. 52 But people have cut off their affair (of unity), between them, into sects: each party rejoices in that which is with itself. 53 Therefore leave them in their overwhelming ignorance till 54 Do they fancy that Our continuing to give them wealth and children (means) that 55 We hasten in good works for them? No, they are not aware. 56 Only those who are, out of fear of Him, humble before their Lord, 57 And those who believe in the revelations of their Lord, 58 and those who associate naught with their Lord 59 And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;- 60 It is those who hasten to good deeds, and they outstrip [others] therein. 61 And [withal.] We do not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: for with Us is a record that speaks the truth [about what men do and can do]; and none shall be wronged. 62 But their hearts are in ignorance of this (Koran); and they have deeds besides that which they are doing. 63 Till, when We seize with the chastisement the ones of them that live at ease, behold, they groan. 64 'Groan not today; surely you shall not be helped from Us. 65 My verses were recited to you, but you turned upon your heels, 66 and arrogantly mocked and reviled them. 67 Have they, then, never tried to understand this word [of God]? Or has there [now] come to them something that never came to their forefathers of old? 68 Or is it, perchance, that they have not recognized their Apostle, and so they disavow him? 69 Or do they say, "He is possessed"? Nay, he has brought them the Truth, but most of them hate the Truth. 70 But if the truth were in accord with their own likes and dislikes, the heavens and the earth would surely have fallen into ruin, and all that lives in them [would long ago have perished]! Nay, [in this divine writ] We have conveyed unto them all that they ought to bear in mind: and from this their reminder they [heedlessly] turn away! 71 Or dost thou [O Muhammad] ask of them any worldly recompense? But [they ought to know that] recompense from thy Sustainer is best, since He is the best of providers! 72 And indeed you call them to the Straight Path. 73 And indeed those who do not believe in the Hereafter are deviated from the Straight Path. 74 ۞ And even if We gave them mercy and removed what was upon them of affliction, they would persist in their transgression, wandering blindly. 75 We struck them with torment, but they did not submit themselves to their Lord, nor did they make themselves humble 76 until We opened upon them the door of a severe chastisement. Then lo, in this state they become utterly despaired of any good. 77
