The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
