Nay, and by the moon, 32 By the receding night 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 a warning to humans, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 Except those on the right side. 39 (They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other, 40 About the guilty: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
