The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 Verily, the Abrar (pious, who fear Allah and avoid evil), shall drink a cup (of wine) mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafur. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; 7 they give food, for the love of Him, to the needy, the orphan, the captive: 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 wherever you look, you will see bliss and a great kingdom: 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
