He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
