We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape; 26 And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels, "I will create the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay. 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 then the angels all prostrated themselves together. 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 And surely on you is curse until the day of judgment. 35 He said: My Lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised. 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 Except, among them, Your chosen servants." 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
