He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
