The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 The disbelievers will ardently wish that if only they had been Muslims! (At the time of death / in their graves / on the Day of Resurrection.) 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And every dwelling that We destroyed, had a known decree for it. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad. 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We do not send down angels except for a genuine purpose, at which time none will be given any further respite. 8 then they would not be respited. It is We who have sent down the Remembrance, and We watch over it. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Even so do We [now] cause this [scorn of Our message] to pervade the hearts of those who are lost in sin, 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
