They ask thee concerning the Spirit (of inspiration). Say: "The Spirit (cometh) by command of my Lord: of knowledge it is only a little that is communicated to you, (O men!)" 85 And if We please, We should certainly take away that which We have revealed to you, then you would not find for it any protector against Us. 86 But on account of mercy from your Lord-- surely His grace to you is abundant. 87 Say: "If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another." 88 Indeed, We have set forth for mankind in this Koran every kind of parable, yet most people refuse all except disbelief. 89 And they say: We will by no means believe in you until you cause a fountain to gush forth from the earth for us. 90 or, until you own a garden of palms and vines and cause rivers to gush forth with abundant water in them; 91 Or thou causest the heaven to fall upon us, as thou assertest, in pieces, or thou bringest God and the angels face to face. 92 Or you have a house of gold or you ascend into the sky. And [even then], we will not believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book we may read." Say, "Exalted is my Lord! Was I ever but a human messenger?" 93
