Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 upon thy heart, that thou mayest be one of the warners, 194 In the perspicuous Arabic tongue. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Is it not a Sign to them that the Learned of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 And had We revealed it unto any of the non-Arabs, 198 And he had recited it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 They will not believe in it till they behold the painful doom, 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are unaware, 202 and then they will say: 'Shall we be respited' 203 Would they (now) hasten on Our doom? 204 Did you consider that if We were to let them enjoy life for many years 205 And then what they were promised comes upon them, 206 All that with which they used to enjoy shall not avail them. 207 And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners 208 As a reminder; and never have We been unjust. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 for, neither does it suit their ends, nor is it in their power [to impart it to man]: 211 Indeed they have been removed far from even (a chance of) hearing it. 212 Hence, [O man,] do not invoke any other deity side by side with God, lest thou find thyself among those who are made to suffer [on Judgment Day]. 213 And warn your tribe (O Muhammad SAW) of near kindred. 214 and lower your wing to the believers who follow you. 215 If they disobey you, say, "I bear no responsibility for what you do." 216 And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 who can see whether you stand up 218 And your turning over and over among those who prostrate themselves before Allah. 219 for, verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing! 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying sinner, 222 They give ear, but most of them are liars. 223 As for poets, only the wayward follow them. 224 Have you not seen that they wander distract in every valley, 225 And how they say that which they do not? 226 [Most of them are of this kind] save those who have attained to faith, and do righteous deeds, and remember God unceasingly, and defend themselves [only] after having been wronged, and [trust in God's promise that] those who are bent on wrongdoing will in time come to know how evil a turn their destinies are bound to take! 227
