۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 [that] after we have died and become mere dust and bones we shall, forsooth, be brought to judgment?"' 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 If it had not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would also have been taken to Hell." 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 They had found their fathers astray, 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 Most of the ancient people had also gone astray. 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 except the sincere worshipers of Allah. 74
