The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
