He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
