Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and couches raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
